Why is it so important?
During your piercing appointment your piercer will let you know that the jewellery your initially pierced with will be longer than the current measurements of the location on your body...this is to accommodate for swelling after your new new piercing.
What happens next?
You will notice that the post sticks out to start with and within an hour or so, the body natural reaction is to swell around the piercing site, meaning the post in there will fit to the size of the swelling comfortably.
After a few weeks/months (depending on the location of your piercing!) once swelling has subsided, we will ask you to return for a "check up/size down" of your initial jewellery.
Why is this important to make a check up appointment?
Downsizing your jewellery is a very important part of your aftercare and healing process. If the post is left too long, it can create too much moving leading to irritation and potentially migration.
•Movement=irritation, maybe hyper granulation aka piercing bumps.
•Snagging=irritation & migration
•Snagging, bumping =unnecessary trauma
